The Thanksgiving holiday is just around the corner and many of us are starting to think about food preparation, shopping, and hosting for the holidays. It’s more important than ever this time of year to support our local businesses and make your donations count in our local communities.
Opportunities to Donate Food
1st Security Bank Annual Holiday Food Drive is happening now through December 31. Please drop off nonperishable foods and cash donations at any 1st Security Bank branch location to help those suffering from food insecurity. All items and funds remain in our local communities.
On Tuesday, November 26, the North County Food Bank will be providing Thanksgiving Baskets to those needing food assistance. Food donations can be made to North County Food Bank on Tuesdays between 12 pm and 3 pm. To make food or financial donations, please visit the website for more information.
Turkeys and Turkey Dinner-to-Go
If you’re cooking the bird for Thanksgiving dinner, now is the time to reserve your turkey from Manzanita Fresh Foods. Options include Diestel All-Natural, Diestel Organic, Diestel Smoked All-Natural, Diestel Organic Bone-in Breast, Norbest All-Natural, Jennie O, and Butterball turkeys. Also note that their Thanksgiving Day hours are 8 am to 2 pm.
If relaxing is more what you had in mind, you can order a complete turkey dinner (serves 6-8) from Little Apple Manzanita Grocery & Deli. They also offer dinners by the plate and à la carte items.
Buttercup Ice Cream and Chowders in Nehalem is offering limited take-out turkey dinners.

~ Centennial Celebration: The Old Wheeler Hotel Turns 100! On Saturday, November 16, The Old Wheeler Hotel, which opened in 1924, will be celebrating 100 years with a walk through Wheeler history and a film about the town. Festivities begin at 2 pm with film presentations at 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm, created by historian Mark Beach and videographer Carl Vandervoort.
~ Offshore Grill expansion: Word on the street is that Offshore Grill is expanding and will move its coffee shop operation into the former Cloud & Leaf Bookstore space. Stay tuned for a formal announcement with more details. In the meantime, Offshore Grill is now serving its Fall/Winter menu.
~ A Mighty Thai is now serving breakfast Friday through Sunday. Try the Benedict Thai featuring local Neahkahnie Smokehouse smoked salmon on an open-faced spinach-bao bun with hollandaise.
~ First King Tide of the season is November 15 -17. The Oregon King Tides Project invites people to participate in the project by taking pictures of areas impacted by king tides and sharing their photos. These photos help guide sea level rise modeling and mapping, give meaning to data and charts, and educate others about how the Oregon coast is experiencing the impacts of climate change.
