Welcome! I’m so glad we’re connected!

Manzanita Connections is a bi-weekly newsletter that aims to connect residents and visitors of Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler and surrounding areas with each other and the community.

My goal is to share the coffee-shop or sidewalk talk. Think part news and part useful bits of info whether you’re a long-time or part-time resident, recently moved here or you’re just visiting. I also want to help tell the stories about the people who make up our community and the stories that connect us all.

A little about me

I’m Angie Hatfield. I grew up in Eugene, Oregon – and after spending 17 years in Arizona followed by 18 years in the suburbs east of Seattle – I happily returned to Oregon in September 2022 as a full-time, semi-retired resident of Manzanita. My love of the coast began in my childhood years with numerous drives up and down the 101 in a station wagon and Caveman camper. Over the past 20 years, we’ve spent many a summer weekend in Seaside, but we never stopped in Manzanita. One fateful day my husband Ted and I made that turn into this little community and haven’t looked back! Alas, we have no dog (the most-asked question upon moving here), but we have two wonderful children - a daughter in Portland and a son in Seattle.

I believe in the power of sunshine, daily laughter, and a good meal with friends. Cookies, ice cream, and a good book are a few of my favorite things. After a career in high tech PR, I’m still a bit of a grammar and punctuation stickler but find it much more rewarding to use my creativity in the kitchen. I’m the first to admit that I spend sometimes what seems like an insane amount of time cooking and baking. Basically, I’m always thinking about food and love to talk about food (as you can see on my kitchenistics blog), and may offer you food if I see you in town.
